The women who inspire Afagh are real women, women of today, with a story. Not always visible in society, but undoubtedly inspiring to many. Artists such as Frida Kahlo, but also Jina Mahsa Amini, the women fighting for life and freedom in Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, Congo, etc., her mother, and the other important women in her life. This diptych is an ode to the woman with a story—diverse in age, skin color, origin, or class. Together, they present a realistic portrayal of contemporary society. It reflects the roles they fulfill in their daily lives, as well as the story that has shaped who they are today. Afagh captures all these women with elegance, yet also with the fire and strength in their eyes. She wants the viewer to see themselves in these women, as well as to recognize the comfort, empowerment, and inspiration they embody.
